A Musical Trifecta -Night 3

Saturday night was the anticlimactic conclusion to three nights of music! It began at the Stadio- that’s the pitch where local teams play soccer. Posters around town had announced Grevigiana Country! Music, cocktails, Pattatine Fritte (french fries), Primi Patti - 5 nights in July! Chris a big fan of country music aka Johnny Cash, etc. was sure country music was coming to Greve.

He, Pam and I arrived, soon joined by other friends of theirs and took in what looked like a local barbecue. Burgers, chicken and sausage sizzled on grills that spewed plumes of meat scented smoke into the night air. A favorite local bartender was mixing drinks at a makeshift bar. At least a dozen people were queued up waiting for a basket of fries. A pingpong table and a table top hockey game were set up in the field. Familes clustered around picnic tables or sat on big bales of hay scattered around the field. A simple stage sat at one end of the fireld where a disc jockey played a range of music including Abba.

“When do you think the country music comes on,” Chris wondered? A drink and a round of ping pong later we studied the poster again and realized it didn’t actually promise Country Music, just a “Greve country” event.

A bit disappointed (because what would have been more entertaining than hearing Johnny Cash songs sung by Italians?) we headed to the second musical event of the evening- a concert in the Piazza in Greve featuring the organizer and director of last night’s Belcanto.

Here we joined everyone from Greve who wasn’t at the stadio for a contemporary music program, starting at Italian Prime Time- 2000- 10 PM! Once again, the music was outstanding. It was the perfect ending to a weekend musical trifecta!

Why did we think we’d find country music here???

A good old fashioned country barbecue!

A DJ but no country music in Grevigiana Country!

The final musical event of the weekend!
