Ristoro di Lamole

One perfect afternoon last week, Dorn and I took a drive up to Lamole ( Lam- o- lay), a tiny village that sits on a hill to the east, across the valley from Panzano. There, on a ridge with brethtaking views is Ristoro di Lamole, a well known restaurant that was once a favorite of locals. Now, though the food is still superb, it is mostly frequented by vistors as the prices have risen and they have will even serve cappuchino with dessert which no self respecting Italian restaurant does!.

The menu, though limited was enticing. We decided to share an appetizer, primpiatti and dessert for the opportunity to try more things.

To start we chose the Ricottina Artigianale della Maremma con Crema e Dadolata di Funghi Champignon because it sounded delicious not because it also happened to be the longest name we’d ever seen for an appetizer! The ricotta was fresh and firm but it was the sauce which tasted like the smoothest, most subtle cream of mushroom soup was complented which had us swiping the plate for every last drop!

Good thing there were only five ravioli in our serving of Ravioli Fatti a Mano di Pera e Peccorino because I would have eaten as many as they served! The homemade pasta filled with more fresh ricotta were in a buttery sauce sprinkled with slices of sweet pear and shaved Pecorino. Yum!

Our dessert of Semifreddo al Torrone con caramello e Meringue was described as a nougat parfait with caramel and meringue- I’d just call it a refeshing cross between ice cream and gelato!

This ristoro is definitely a place you’ll see if you come to visit!
