Paula and Anna
Paula, who manages a Campana, is a friendly face I see almost every day. I started chatting with her on my first visit to the shop when she switched from fluent Italian to English to ask how she could help. Though she sounded so Italian there was something about her that seemed American. So I asked, “Are you from the US?”
She is. She came to Panzano several years ago to apprentice as a butcher with Dario and ended up meeting her husband. Fast forward and now here they are living in Panzano.
Her colleague Anna is Brazilian and also fluent in English and Italian, And I guess Portuguese, too. Reminds me of that joke I have shared with some of you..
“What do you call someone who speaks 2 languages… bilingual.”
“What do you call someone who speaks three languages…trilingual.”
“What do you call someone who speaks one language…American.”
Well, Panzano has some of each of these! I hope to move toward the bilingual group this year!
