Life Italian Style… Part 1 - Dogs Rule the Day!
Life in Italy demands that, for all its beauty and carefree living, you make two possibly uncomfortable accomodations. First, you will share community life with many four legged canine friends. Here, dogs have easy admittance everywhere their owners go. Turn a corner in any store…be it a clothing store, pharmacy or supermarket and you will likely step aside as a dog, big or small ambles by. It’s a given that a dog may rest at your feet while you dine in any restaurant, indoors or out. Last night as I waited for my pizza a young man walked in behind me with a large hairy mutt on a very short leash to pick up his order. There is a resident dog of the house in many restaurants and stores who greets visitors along with the official host. This weekend I spotted a fellow swimmer set her little doggie case on her lounge chair before taking a dip. Dogs really do rule the day here. That’s fine by me- I’m happy to share this wonderful country with them!
