More Gelato!
More gelato? Why not? (actually that’s even the Italian name of one of Florence’s famous gelaterias (Perche’ No?)
With so many gelatarias to explore and endless flavor variations to test, I continue to seek the very best! No, it’s not Perche’ No?-at least not today. I want to share my throroughly chocolate experience at Venchi Cioccolato e Gelato. Wow!
The wall of flowing choclate caught my attention as I wandered through Florence last week. I looked up and saw the sign that said Venchi and remembered I had read that was one of “the Best”. How could I resist?
I stepped inside and took my place behind a family chattering in German. A large sign overhead announced the current “signature” offering - their limited edition Missoni- a sugar cone heaped with three colorful flavors, missoni (strawberry and blueberry) , stracciatella (Italian choclate chip) and cremino (milk chocolate) topped with their signature dark choclate disc. I had to peek around a father and son blocking my view of the display case as the father patiently described each flavor to his little boy. I knew I was in chocloate heaven when I saw one corner alone featuring four different chocolate options. And there was so much more.
Faced with more choices than I could process by the time it was my turn with one of the blue aproned, bereted servers, I chose a cone with missioni and carmelized hazelnut. I declined to have my cone dipped under the chocolate spigot for a coating of thick, dark choolate, followed by a roll through crushed nuts, though that did look enticing! I’ll have to return to work my way through all the rest of their flavors.
Venchi, also a famed chocolatier, offers walls of brightly wrapped candies. Another reason for my next visit!
Sharon reminded me why the name Venchi sounded so familiar! She and Bruce had been to a Venchi nearby and brought me a litte bag of treats. So good news for those of you who can’t get to Florence, there’s a Venchi at King of Prussia! You can have a little taste of Italy right there in PA! Enjoy!
