Only in Italy…

When my friend Pam heard I was getting my own Panda she made a point to introduce me to Italy’s unique method for speed control. Despite my experience that few Italian drivers comply with posted speed limits, Italy has a generous way to encourage compliance, at least along select small sections of certain roads.

Unlike in the US where officers lurk in some hidden spot hoping to trap unsuspecting speeding motorists, Italy take the guesswork out of their speed traps. Posted, at some distance before you encounter the “radar”, is a sign telling you a speed control station is coming up! Brilliant! Some of the monitoring stations look new and very functional. Others look abandoned and obsolete. But I certainly don’t want to test their functionality.

Advanced warning!

I definitely wouldn’t speed past this!

I might consider speeding past this one, but why take a chance?
