Romina - the best neighbor

When I arrived in Panzano, Monia, my landlady, met me at the door. Standing right next to her was Romina, my neighbor and Monia’s “boots on the ground” for all her properties. Romina and her family live across the hall. She has been the one to show me how to work the washing machine (it only took 3 times for me to finally get it!), hook me up to the wifi and answer all sorts of everyday questions. Romina is trying to learn English and I am trying to learn Italian … thank goodness for Google Translate!

Romina had been so helpful the first week or so I was here that I wanted to let her know how much I appreciated her. I left a hanging basket with a blooming strawberry plant and a thank you note by her door. Later than evening my doorbell rang (I didn’t know I had a doorbell!) and there stood Romina with a slice of the most delicious torta she had just made. “Grazie,” she said.
