Snail Mail

If this snail was responsible for carrying a letter home, it just might be speedier than Poste Italiane!

Seven weeks after I paid E2.45 for a stamp and entrusted to the postal clerk a letter to my Kacergis grandkids in Lafayette Hill, PA, it arrived in their mail box. Google told me to expect it to take 2 to 5 weeks, a slight underestimate! Yesterday my Credit Union in New Jersey emailed me that they received a check I mailed a few days before that letter to my grandkids. Add a few more weeks to that 5 week estimate.

When I shared the good news with friends that my first letter had arrived home, they laughed. “I’m not surprised,” Chris said. He shared that early in their time here he was exasperated by the delay in the mail. He spoke to the postal clerk about his frustration and was met with a most classic Italian response. The clerk had shrugged lackadaisically and said, “It’s not a good season for mail.”
